What's Avoriaz like?

Avoriaz is a unique and distinctive ski resort located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil in the French Alps. Built on a shelf, high above the town of Morzine. Avoriaz is known for its striking modern architecture, car-free streets, and stunning mountain views.

The resort is completely pedestrianised, meaning that upon arrival, visitors leave their vehicles in one of the large car parks at the entrance to the resort and navigate the town on foot, by horse-drawn sleigh, or even on skis. This contributes to the relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere in Avoriaz and also in the green spirit, making the resort more sustainable for the future.

Renowned for its snow quality and extensive skiing area, Avoriaz caters to all levels of skiers and snowboarders. With access to over 650km of slopes in the Portes du Soleil ski area, from gentle nursery slopes to challenging black runs, there truly is something for everyone in Avoriaz. If that isn’t enough for you, then Avoriaz has access to one of the hardest ski runs in the world. Ranking in the top 7, La Chavanette AKA the ‘Swiss Wall’, is a gruelling mogul run, with an average steepness of 37 degrees. Here’s instructor George skiing the Swiss Wall.

Aside from skiing and snowboarding, Avoriaz offers a variety of other winter activities such as snowshoeing, dog sledding, and ice diving. Additionally, the resort boasts many high-quality restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as the Aquariaz water park, which is a paradise for children and a great option for a day off the slopes.

Transportation:

The shuttles are free within Morzine and serve around the town, with several lines in service during the summer and winter seasons. Each of them passes through the centre of Morzine or the Town Hall and serves a particular sector.

The free shuttles are just for Morzine and a link to Prodains Telecabine (Access to Avoriaz). Once you are up in Avoriaz, there are in-resort Taxis, horse drawn sleigh or the option to walk using certain lifts to access different levels.
