A beginners guide to skiing
Welcome to the Slopes with PEAK!
Ready to dive into the exhilarating world of skiing? Whether you're chasing the thrill of speeding down a mountain or looking to immerse yourself in the peaceful beauty of snowy landscapes, skiing is an adventure like no other. At PEAK, we're here to help you make your first turns on the slopes with confidence and excitement. Let’s kick things off with everything you need to know as a beginner skier!
Resort:
Arriving at the resort can be stressful, but try to give yourself plenty of time and get to know the important parts of the area quickly like accommodation, supermarket, pharmacy, lift pass ticket office, main ski lift and meeting point for ski lessons.
If you booked a catered chalet you should have access to a chalet host, who will be able to provide you with the information you need to start your holiday off with a bang!
On your first day try to wake up early so you have time to prep and fuel yourself for your first day of skiing. Try to organise your equipment and clothing the night before, so there is no stress in the morning. Keep a clear head and enjoy the process and scenery.
Dress appropriately for the weather
Keep an eye on the weather forecast apps as the weather can change very quickly and you may get caught out. Layering is key in skiing to maintain comfort whilst learning skiing. Instructor George has gathered a list of clothing that he wears on a day to day basis, we’ve added the brands as well.

Tips for Your First Day
Take a Lesson: Professional instruction can make a world of difference. Our experienced coaches at Peak Snowsports are ready to help you start strong.
Lift Pass: Make sure you have the right lift pass for the area you are skiing and pop it in a separate pocket to your phone and wallet. Most jackets will have a lift pass pocket on the left sleeve.
Stay Hydrated and Energized: Bring snacks and water to keep your energy levels up.
Dress in Layers: The weather can change quickly, so it's best to be prepared.
Pace Yourself: Take breaks and don’t push yourself too hard. It’s important to enjoy the experience.
Have Fun: Remember, everyone falls. Laugh it off and keep trying!
Aprés Time:
Once you have completed your first day skiing, you have earned yourself a well-deserved drink, and I mean you are on holiday after all. 😁 We recommend going to Le Crépu, which is in the centre of Morzine. It’s a cool, local spot that offers all the cocktails you can think of and a wide range of bottled and draft beer. With its fun and lively atmosphere, you may see one or more of the Peak instructors there.
